DT+Lean with Tandemic

For months, I have read around more than 60+ journal articles about Design Thinking and how it was being used as a teaching methodology in education to teach creativity, innovation and radical collaboration.  I also had the opportunity of observing firsthand DT champions @ Benilde with the likes of Abigail Mapua-Cabanilla, Jag Garcia, TQ Antiqueño (to mention a few).  But what I read and what I observed did not come close to the actual hands-on and intensive Design Thinking workshop facilitated by Tandemic SG.

The Design Thinking + Lean Startup Workshop lasted for 4 days from August 30 to September 2 at the Phinma Training Center, Tagaytay City.  Facilitated by Tandemic‘s Kal Joffres and Stephanie Choo, the course is an intensive run through of the Design Thinking framework enhanced by elements of the Lean Startup Model.  The facilitators expertly explained and demonstrated in high resolution detail the individual elements of the DT framework while providing a bird’s eye view of the whole process.  I was amazed at how the process forces on to dig in, discover and explore while simultaneously generating  creative ideas.

The biggest realization I took away from the workshop is that DT actually allows for a metacognitive reflection on the process one is immersed.  The rapid iteration process allows for a more reflective stance among the participants as facilitators challenged every single bit of idea being generated.  The constant collaboration from between mentors-participants and participants-participants provided an opportunity for “creative abrasion.”  I observed though in other teams that this created a sense of resentment from their younger members.  But our team was lucky as our millennials were fighters who fought for their ideas and stood their ground when they felt they are in the right.  Go Team fitjournlogoDelta! Our Team created was able to create an awesome product: Fitjourn – a personal online and offline fitness journey planner.
